Recognition of Playful Research Excellence in the REF 2021!

We had some wonderful news recently as the GameChangers initiative was included as one of Coventry University’s impact cases for the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF2021) gaining a 4 star rating for research excellence in the process! (that 4 out of 4 btw šŸ¤©). For those that don’t know, GameChangers is the initiative that drives all our research, design, development, and practice activities. It all started back in 2015 when GameChangers began its life on a whiteboard in the Disruptive Media Learning Lab and we’ve been expanding the movement ever since. You can read all about our GC adventures here.

This result was a huge deal for us as it further validates the quality of our research practice, especially on the back of our recent success in the QS Reimagine Education Awards late last year. As I move further into the field of research, and we continue to integrate frugal education practices into our projects, I know I’m in good hands. I mean, it makes sense, as the projects that constituted our REF impact case were the inspiration behind the idea after all. šŸ˜† Hopefully my own work will contribute towards our next REF impact case in the years to come. I look forward to it.

A big shout out to Prof. Sylvester Arnab for compiling the impact case that included research from the GameChangers initiative, his hard work and leadership over the past few years has been instrumental in the success of those research projects that contributed to the REF submission. This contributions helped raise the impact case into the highest tier, a truly excellent result. Coventry University advanced 22 places in the research excellence tables in response to the results of the REF2021, placing the university in the top 50%. Onwards and upwards!
